In the middle of October, for the most part, conditions are hot, deer movement is low, and big buck sightings are few and far between. In this episode, Jake, Hayden and I talk about when we like to get aggressive throughout the "October Lull." To increase our odds we try to find fresh sign and wait for specific conditions to move into bedding areas to try to intercept small moments that mature bucks are making during daylight hours.

Both my Dad and I grew up and lived in Ohio for most of our lives where we learned to hunt whitetails and turkeys. We both always dreamed of one day hunting elk but we were uneducated on how to get a tag and wrote it off as something that was unrealistic for an eastern hunter. After realizing that there are many opportunities to hunt elk every season we have taken full advantage of what September has to offer. In this episode, we talk about our season and the things we have learned, what we plan to improve on next season, and at the end of the episode I tell the story of the bull that I shot with Ben and Colin this season!

In this episode, Ben, Colin, and I talk about what we have learned when calling to elk. Like other forms of hunting we have found that calling to elk is very situational. We discuss the evolution of our calling strategy and some of the strategies that we have incorporated this season where we don't call at all. Hopefully some of the things we have learned will help you in a similar situation when moving in on a bugling bull!

In this episode, Jake, Nick, and I talk about the timing and progression of making a stalk. Every situation is different, but in this podcast we cover several different strategies that we use to get within bow range of bedded bucks. Kody Kellom and the Born and Raised crew have a ton of experience calling elk on public land in many states. Although they often hunt in groups and use group calling strategies, they also have a lot of experience calling elk hunting solo. In the last episode, we talked about reading sign during the early part of the season and into the middle of October. In this episode, Aaron, Jake, Ted, Nick and I pick up where we left off and talk about what "hot sign" we are looking for during late October and during the rut. What sign we look for during this part of the season is a lot different than what we look for earlier when the bucks haven't laid down as much sign.
