In this episode, Larry and I talk about some of the recent realizations we have had about hunting in hill country. As we learn more about hunting deer in big timber settings we continue to get better at anticipating specific bedding areas. But we often push too far and ultimately spook the deer before we even get a chance to setup on them or stalk them. As last season ended my mission was to do my best to get a better understanding of why we made that mistake and how we could prevent the mistake during the offseason and into this season. After discussing the success and the failure we have had in the last several years we have come up with new strategies for these areas that will hopefully help us stay in the game more often without pushing too far and bumping deer. Larry and I talk about different strategies for both archery and firearm seasons and hopefully you can learn from what we believe has been our biggest mistake when hunting the hills!

This year was our second year making the trip up to New York to try tracking down a buck in the snow. Getting experience trying a new tactic is a ton of fun but we also enjoy sharing camp with other hunters that spend more time hunting these areas every year than we do to talk hunting and learn from each others experiences. In this episode, Keith and I talk with our friends Jon and Jake from Just Hunt Club as well as our friends Cori, Bailey, Adam, and Brad who we met through our travels to New York. Sharing camp with friends and "camp talk" is always something that helps us learn so hopefully you enjoy our conversation about tracking in the big woods and can learn something from all of our experiences along the way!

In this episode, Warb, Ted, Greg, and I talk about overlooked buck bedding tendencies in hill country. Hunting a lot of different areas over the last few years we have experienced bedding tendencies that often don't get mentioned in most buck bedding conversations. Often times buck bedding is described by specific winds and terrain features but in our experience in a lot of situations buck beds are not limited to those specific spots. It seems that bucks utilize different areas based off of food sources, wind, and cover and those areas don't always end up being on the leeward wind side of a hill on the upper third.

On our most recent trip, Nick and I were faced with a new challenge of bowhunting in extremely cold conditions and snow. In the first half of this episode, we talk about gear and other tips that that allowed us to manage the cold. In the second half of the episode we tell the full story of our trip back to Minnesota and how we managed to get a crack at a buck!

In this episode, Keith and I talk to our new friends Mitch and Tate about their experiences growing up hunting in Minnesota. We tell a lot of stories, talk about their grandpa, who bow hunted for whitetails before anyone else in the area did it, bear hunting, wolves, and what is most important to us when it comes to hunting. One of the most enjoyable parts of traveling to hunt is meeting fellow hunters that are passionate about the outdoors so we have really enjoyed hanging out with Mitch and Tate!

In this episode, I catch up with Beau Martonik. Beau hunts the big woods of Pennsylvania and also travels to hunt other states in big woods settings. Both Beau and I really enjoy the challenges that come with hunting big, contiguous stands of timber. We discuss bedding tendencies in big timber, what conditions may change his bedding location, historical patterns of big bucks, and how we both constantly battle with overthinking our strategy instead of being aggressive due to fear of spooking a big buck.
